Matthias, Mitchell, and Benji Visser as kids

Matthias, Mitchell, and Benji Visser

Rimbey, Alberta, circa 1997

We're three brothers from Rimbey, Alberta.

Matthias ran fracking operations for Schlumberger before starting his own oilfield consulting firm. Benji founded and sold a cybersecurity company and has been building software since. Mitchell keeps municipalities running across Alberta and always reads the fine print.

Every year, we'd look at Blue Cross quotes and Chamber plans and have the same reaction: this is expensive, and we barely use it.

Then we found Health Spending Accounts.

They were exactly what we had been looking for. A simple, CRA-approved way to pay for medical expenses through your corporation, tax-free. No monthly premiums. No deductibles. No vague coverage rules. No guessing what's included.

It felt like the best kept secret around.

So we tried to sign up.

The providers we found wanted us to mail in paper forms. The websites were confusing. The whole thing felt like it hadn't been updated in twenty years.

Benji has been building software his entire career, so we knew it could be better. We built Frontier HSA to be what we wished already existed: a simple Health Spending Account for Canadian business owners.

We also wanted the pricing to make sense.

Insurance charges you every month whether you use it or not. We don't. There are no monthly premiums or annual fees. We take a small percentage when you submit a claim. If you don't use it, you don't pay.

We think small business owners shouldn't have to keep paying just to maybe use their benefits one day.

That's what we're building.
