Medical Services Outside Canada
Medical and dental services received outside Canada when provided by a licensed practitioner in the jurisdiction where treatment occurs
Are medical services outside Canada CRA eligible?
Yes. CRA-eligible medical expenses are generally not restricted to services provided in Canada. Amounts paid to a medical practitioner or licensed private hospital are eligible regardless of where the services were rendered, as long as the practitioner is licensed in that jurisdiction. These expenses are reimbursable through a Health Spending Account (HSA).
A small number of exceptions require the expense to be incurred in Canada, including attendant care, care in a group home, and certain fertility clinic fees.
